The Youth Games 2007 finals weekend took place on the 30th June and 1st July 2007 at Crystal Palace. This spectacular event shows off an array of sports for young people of all abilities and cultures. Julian Martin and The Mayor presented medals and certificate to all those who had taken part and achieved their goal through the games. Approximately 200 young people and their parents attended the presentation evening.
16th June 2007 – Fathers day Event.
This event was put on in partnership with PCT – Face To Face. The purpose was to engage with Father’s who don’t spend quality time with their siblings because of work constraints, family issues etc. Again, the weather played a key part in the low attendance, but those who did brave the elements had a packed programme of sporting activities laid on by LOCSP, Face Painting, employment advice, male bonding seminar, discussions in relations to the gang violence issue and how young people are drawn into anti social behaviour. The professional who delivered the programme were Heart of Leyton – O-Regen, Olympic Brokerage Team, and face To face, BME Police Alliance, Mama Africa, Play Service, Rollin’G and Street Life FM. It show that O-Regen can take the lead on community initiative irrespective of how sensitive they maybe.
14th July 2007 – Youth Fest
O-Regen in collaboration with a number of agencies delivered a varied programme of activities at the Click and Langthorne Park. Heart of Leyton [O-Regen], South Leytonstone Area Development Association and Worknet. The event was supported by the local Police, Street Wardens and the general community. The activities involved Tae Kwon Do, Hand massage, Indian Head Massage, beginners insight in computers, Employment Advise, local radio [East end radio] Celebrity Wheelchair Basketball, Fitness testing, fruit juices and smoothies. This event is a local event which is lead by a local community group to ensure that the community engages and gets involved in positive works in the local area.
14th August 2007 – Tea Dances
This will be the first of 8 events which will engage with the older communities. It sets out to build the gaps amongst the very diverse communities in Leyton. This project is another partnership with Heart of Leyton and Team Leyton to ensure that all gaps are covered. The Tea dance seeks to encourage the hard to reach 50+ communities to socialise with light entertainment, whilst seeking energy advise, health support [Blood sugar testing, cholesterol testing etc] and general friendship. This event will take place once a month at the Score facility in the main hall.
3rd November 2007 - Job Fairs
The next job fair will be on the 3rd November a number of outlets based at Leyton Mills have shown a positive response to this event. The job fair organised by Heart of Leyton & Team Leyton sets out to bring employers with real job opportunities to the local people in Leyton. They will have the chance to meet local employers face to face and complete applications on the day. Other services o hand will be the Police. Army, Navy, Transport for London Buses and London underground.
