O-Regen wins £1.1m - ‘Access to Employment’ Contract

O-Regen has won a Job Centre Plus contract to provide £1.1m worth of funding to jobseekers particularly in Waltham Forest. The project aptly named “Access to Employment”, will seek to recruit 280 jobseekers; providing access to employment to 140 people and giving the other jobseekers construction and ICT skills up to an NVQ 2 (or equivalent).

Julian Martin, Chief Executive of O-Regen said of the project, “this is great news for the local community. The funding will help O-Regen provide residents with the skills to get a job. With the Olympics and other major developments taking place in the area, it is important that local people are equipped to get the jobs which will become available.”

He went on to say, “O-Regen will provide a range of training with the funding. It will also help us to support lone parents, women and people from ethnic minority communities, who traditionally find it difficult to get and keep a job.”

The project, which started in April 2006, will run for two years. Local residents will be able to see an Employment advisor by dropping in at the Click centre in Leytonstone, or any of O-Regen’s community centres.

Alternatively you can call our Employment Development Officers on 020 8988 8800.

O-Regen support Newham Action against Domestic Violence (NAADV)

Newham Action against Domestic Violence (NAADV) is a registered charity whose mission and heartbeat is to combat the affects of domestic violence on adults and children especially in the London Borough of Newham.

Their website www.naadv.org.uk was designed by a volunteer in 2004 and hadn’t been updated till they heard about the ICT support from O-Regen. In October 2005, Jane Ishmael, the NAADV Service Development Co-ordinator made contact with O-Regen to solicit support to enable them to update the site.

To arm them for the future, Jane was encouraged to attend our Web design and maintenance courses to equip her with the knowledge and skills needed for the tasks. Today, NAADV through Jane have a current website that reflects their operations, thanks to O-Regen’s eProjects.

“The training I received has been extremely helpful and I’m amazed at what capacity building through O-Regen can accomplish. I am very impressed by the professional follow-up support (site visits, email and telephone) from the team that encouraged me to achieve this goal” says Jane Ishmael.

Are you alarmed by the rapid pace of new developments in technology?

• Do you feel that technology has little relevance to your organisation's activities?
• Do you have budget responsibility but feel ill-informed when making ICT investment decisions?
• Do you find it difficult to budget for ICT maintenance, support and training?

These are just some of the dilemmas faced by Voluntary & Community Organisation (VCO) managers and trustees, charged with shaping the strategic direction of their organisation, but lacking the time or necessary expertise to explore the potential of information and communication technology (ICT).

net:gain is an innovative programme, designed to bring about a step-change in the ICT capability of the Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS). It aims to help VCOs to take a practical, appropriate and informed approach to ICT planning and support. All those who have ever felt pressurised to make decisions about technology for which they are unqualified will find solace in net:gain.

How net:gain will deliver its aims
net:gain is not a programme for ‘techies’but targeted at decision makers. Delegates who subscribe to net:gain will benefit from 12 month’s membership including a programme of at least 2 workshops, support and guidance, signposting, online support and materials.

At the heart of the process is an ICT Action Plan, which leads the delegate to examine areas of their organisation such as their mission, existing resources and staff skills, ICT requirements and associated costs and risks.
