Tessa Jowell MP Praises SCORE

The Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, Secretary of State for Media, Culture and Sport, visited SCORE to talk to local residents about the Olympics.
Tessa Jowell was at pains to stress that the success of the Olympics depended upon local people owning the Olympics legacy. She stated, “It is important that multi purpose facilities like SCORE, which cater to the needs of the local community, are supported.

Part of the reason London won the bid to host the Olympic Games in 2012 was because we focused on leaving a lasting legacy for future generations”.

Julian Martin, Chief Executive of O-Regen, who own the community facility said “SCORE is a centre for the whole community, whatever you want to do we can accommodate it.

The centre is an ideal place for birthday parties or wedding receptions. Whilst the yoga, street dance and other activities which take place at the centre, complement the sporting activities that you can undertake at the SCORE complex.”

What is Sport Relief?

Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to use the power and passion of sport to tackle poverty and disadvantage, both in the UK and in some of the world's poorest countries.

In the UK, Sport Relief will fund work that uses sport and exercise to strengthen communities and provide opportunities for people who are excluded or disadvantaged. This may be through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disability, race, sexuality or gender.

How much can you apply for? Grants range from £250 to £5,000. Priority will be given to applications that are innovative and may be able to make a difference with grants of £2000 -£3000.
