About SCORE

The SCORE (Sports Club Orient) mission was to develop an all-embracing sports club, community and health facility, driven, owned and managed by its members, catering for the different needs relevant to the diverse communities in Leyton and Leytonstone. The facility is aimed at social groups and individuals traditionally excluded from mainstream leisure provision. The SCORE Project tries to link sports participation to wider social issues of health, employment, education and crime reduction. The scheme demonstrates the effectiveness of community-based solutions to local problems.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
• A new community owned and managed venture in Leyton, with local residents and groups represented on the Board;
• Affordable access to and priority use of excellent facilities;
• New and improved community and recreational facilities for sporting, community and health uses;
• New buildings in parkland setting with high quality landscaping;
• A commitment to high-quality design;
• Car parking and a bus link to shops and tube station;
• Sustainable construction and renewable energy sources;

The SCORE Project consists of multi-sports, health (PCT on the first floor) and community facilities located on two separate sites in Leyton, North East London. The Coronation Gardens site was previously a run down area with hardcourt tennis courts and little used bowling green which had all suffered from vandalism, the Ive Farm site was also out of public use. The sites are owned by LB Waltham Forest, whose contribution to the project has been the grant of a 60-year lease.

The two sites occupy 7.3 hectares and the facilities have a combined floorspace of 5,495m2.

Facilities contained in the Coronation Gardens site,
• A new high-quality community/sports building housing a health centre, crèche, community hall, café, training and meeting rooms and changing rooms;
• Sports hall;
• New flood-lit all-weather football pitch;
• All-weather bowling green and refurbished clubhouse;
• Outdoor multi-use games area;
• Children’s playground.
